BioMarin's goal is to create medicine for rare diseases that most other companies do not think about making it for. At our Biomarin field trip I did not learn a lot due to our time constraints. I did learn that they use CHO (chinese hamster ovarie) cells because they seperate well. They test the disease cure on these cells after they recreate the cell the be the same as a diseased cell. A good family friend of mine, Mark Korsen Doctor at Tufts medical in Boston Massachusetts, used a metabolism medicine on a patient from BioMarin. It was very cool to see where the medicine came from because it was a miracle for this young boy in Boston. I would like to learn more about how they replicate the disease in the cell to see if the drug works.
