Above you will see our physics of sports video. We studied the physics of paintball. Originally we decided to find the physics of motorcross, but we realized it was not realistic due to the amount of time we had. We quickly thought on our feet to find a solution. We found the physics of paintball. There are many different factors that we considered including acceleration, velocity, force, power, impulse, and potential and kinetic energy. We started testing all these components by shooting at a target that was twenty-eight feet away. In doing this we found the acceleration, and the force of the paintball coming out of the barrell. Next we hit a target forty-four feet away which gave us a greater distance to time so it was more accurate. The final step of collecting data was a vertical ball drop.
As a group we decided that we wanted to find the best angle, and distance to hold your paintball gun to get the most accurate shot. We concluded that to get the best shot you should stand about forty feet away from your target. Also, you should hold your gun at a ninety degree angle. To find this, we shot six times at both the twenty- eight foot, and the forty- four foot target. On each target there was three shots in the center and three on the outskirts. This means that holding the gun at ninety degrees, and standing at an average of forty feet away you get a fifty percent hit rate.
Concepts:
FORCE: Strength or energy due to physical movement or action
MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE: The ratio of the force exerted by a machine to the force applied to it
ACCELERATION: An increase of the rate or speed of something
POTENTIAL ENERGY: The stored energy of an object due to its position
KINETIC ENERGY: The energy of motion in an object
WORK: When any force is put on to an object, causing displacement of the object
Throughout the filming process, I think our group worked well together. Certain aspects went very well but a couple went poorly. I, personally, believe I excelled in some areas and could improve in others. From this project I have learned a lot about facts and content. Also, I found some latent qualities about myself. One of these qualities is to be able to quickly adapt to a whole new concept For example, we had to switch from motorcross to paintball. Another thing that added to the project, I believe, was my filming ability. Also, I think I could have done a couple things better. One big thing was to focus on the task more. Instead of doing a whole bunch of things at once, I could have concentrated on what we were doing more. I believe that this project improved my film editing ability. In the future, I will work on these characteristics. Overall, I think this project went well.
