Description:
We got assigned to create using engineering something better that already exists. My group chose to improve a wheelchair. We came up with a couple ideas but it was hard to really know what it felt like since we did not have a physical wheelchair. Wheelchairs were very expensive to purchase but luckily someone donated to us. Our goal was to take away stress of the users upper body. We achieved this by attaching a bike gear that a local bike shop donated to the inside of the wheels and running a bike gear up to where the handles are. There we attached a crank to the bike gear. When the crank turns it forces the wheel to spin. This takes the stress off the upper body because you do not need to use as much arm strength to push you forward. Here is a Prezi presentation for further detail.
Concepts:
We did not have a big concepts in this unit due to the variation of the projects.
Reflection:
I think this project went well. My group worked smoothly together because we were all friends before this assignment. We were allowed a certain amount of time in class to finish our project. Because of the extremity of my project, we did not finish it in class. We spent a day finishing the project at my house. When this happened, we finished our project and still had time to have fun. In the beginning we had the idea of making the break system easier and faster. we struggled on this idea for awhile but realized it was not plausable.
